GisNews allows users to access information without the need to register an account. However, users can choose to create an account to access additional features such as personalizing their news feed, setting notification preferences, and managing their profiles.

We may collect the following information:

• Personal Information: If you choose to create an account, we may collect your name, email address, and any other information you provide during registration.
• Third-Party Login Information: You can register for an account and log in using your Google or Facebook account. In such cases, we collect the information you choose to share with us via these platforms (such as name and email address), subject to the privacy settings you have on those platforms.
• Preferences and Profile Information: Once registered, you can update your profile and set preferences for news categories and notifications.
• Usage Data: We may collect information about how you interact with the app, such as pages visited, features used, and device information (e.g., type of mobile device, operating system, and app version).

2. How We Use Your Information

The information collected is used to:

• Provide and improve the app’s services.
• Personalize your experience by allowing you to set preferences for news categories and notifications.
• Send you important notifications and alerts in case of emergencies, announcements, or communiques.
• Enhance app functionality, such as enabling live streaming and providing access to our gallery of photos and videos.

3. Notifications

As a registered user, you can enable or disable push notifications for different categories of news and updates through the app’s settings. Non-registered users will not receive push notifications.

4. Account Management and Deletion

If you register for an account, you have full control over your profile and preferences. You can update your profile and modify your news preferences at any time. Additionally, you have the option to delete your account through the mobile app. Upon deletion, your personal information and preferences will be permanently removed from our system, and you will no longer have access to the personalized features of the app.

5. Social Login and Sharing

• Login via Google or Facebook: GisNews allows users to register and log in using their Google or Facebook accounts. By choosing this option, you authorize us to access certain information from your social media profile based on the permissions granted during the login process.
• Sharing Content: Users can share news articles, videos, and other media available on the app via external platforms such as Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, SMS, email, and other social networks or communication channels. When you share content via these platforms, please be aware that you are subject to their respective privacy policies and terms of service.

6. Sharing of Information

GisNews does not share your personal information with third parties except when required by law or in the interest of public safety. The content available on the app is entered by the Government Information Service (GIS), which operates under the aegis of the Prime Minister’s Office of Mauritius.

7. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss. However, please note that no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data.

8. Children’s Privacy

The GisNews app is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.

9. Changes to the Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the app, and the effective date of the updated policy will be indicated at the top of the document. Continued use of the app after any changes indicates your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
